What computations does a single neuron do for cognition and consciousness? Still unsolved
JoshPurtell · x · 2026-10-04
Josh Purtell argues the question of what neuronal dynamics produce cognition and consciousness remains unsolved: a neuron's necessary computation could be simple gating, or far more complex — e.g. dendrite logic or cellular chemistry. He adds that plausible worlds exist where "a few liters" of neuronal matter is enough, and others where it is nowhere near enough.
