Dev argues unit tests are bloat in the coding-agent era: E2E and integration first
KlausCodes · x · 2026-10-04
Developer 0xrwu laid out his testing priority for the age of coding agents:
- Full E2E tests first — nothing mocked, potentially running in prod on test accounts via Playwright
- Integration tests next — agents make more mistakes at data/API boundaries where schemas can drift
- Golden tests — real data examples to ground code and serve as regression against edge cases
His core claim: with frontier models, unit tests are bloat 99% of the time — the model is smart enough to get the implementation right on the first shot, so they only add maintenance burden. KlausCodes agreed, noting you can verify work independently afterward.
