Nadella Says AI Agents Will Kill Traditional SaaS, Turning Apps Into Dumb Databases
Deepuasok · x · 2026-10-04
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella argued on the Bg2 Pod podcast that the traditional SaaS model is heading for obsolescence.
His core claim: business logic is migrating from software applications to AI agents. Today users buy software for its built-in features and rules; in the agentic future, apps will essentially become dumb databases ("CRUD") or simple tools, while AI agents hold all the intelligence, orchestration, and reasoning—merely updating databases as needed.
In other words, software becomes a commodity, the AI becomes the "brain" and the worker, and value shifts from the application layer to the agent layer.
