Open-source ESP32 desk buddy shows what your Claude Code and Copilot agents are doing
DanWahlin · x · 2026-10-04
Developer Dan Wahlin released esp32-agent-companion, an open-source project that turns a Waveshare ESP32-S3 1.75" round AMOLED touchscreen into an animated desk companion reflecting your AI coding agents' state.
- It reacts when GitHub Copilot CLI, Claude Code, Codex CLI, Grok Build, Hermes Agent, or OpenClaw starts working, needs approval, or finishes, showing animations plus a badge per agent
- Everything runs locally — no cloud, account, or subscription; connects via USB or local Wi-Fi
- A recent PR adds device or desktop-widget modes, and the repo includes animation assets and a local sprite review studio
- Firmware and code are fully open-source on GitHub
