Stanford professor Anshul Kundaje, debating a paper with DeepMind's Pushmeet Kohli, says the algorithm is an interesting pilot study with possible future biosecurity applications, but the paper doesn't make a clear case relative to its claims. His bigger objection: telling junior scientists to treat journal review as the only stamp of approval is backward in an era of AI and diverse media for publishing and discussing science.
