Shinji Watanabe, CMU professor and a leading figure in speech processing (core driver of ESPnet and open-source speech research), announced his Google Scholar h-index reached 100, with over 460,000 citations and an h-index of 89 since 2021. His first paper was published in 1999; he credits students, industry collaborators, the open-source community, and research challenges.
