Codex computer use is a local MCP server — Claude + Opus matches it at 6/8
daniel_mac8 · x · 2026-10-04
It turns out Codex computer use in the ChatGPT Mac app is just a local MCP server, callable by Claude Code — even headless via claude -p. Benchmarks on 8 tasks: Opus 5.5 driving Codex's engine scored 6/8, matching Codex itself; a CUA driver got only 3-4/8 at 4x the cost. Codex's engine sends real clicks and drags without hijacking the cursor; CUA's background mode relies only on accessibility APIs, so canvases and drags fail. No hover support, and it's unofficial — a ChatGPT update may break it. The post includes a full prompt to have Claude set it up (find the cuarepl entry in /.codex/plugins).
