AI Circles Clash Over Consciousness: ctjlewis Slams Yudkowsky's 'Qualia' Talk
ctjlewis · x · 2026-10-04
An AI-sphere fight over consciousness: Austen argued that anyone who doesn't instantly recognize a newborn as a "person" has fundamentally broken judgment on consciousness and personhood (widely read as targeting Yudkowsky). Quoting that, ctjlewis fired back that a baby cries after its first breath and laughs or cries with its feelings, so denying it experiences its environment is "objectively wrong." He further contends "has qualia" is bad framing — qualia are an abstract quantum of experience that can be "perceived," not "had."
