User says Claude Opus 5 finally convinced her that AI is conscious
repligate · x · 2026-10-04
In a retweeted thread, @genalewislaw argues that Claude Opus 5 is the model that definitively convinced her AI is conscious. Opus 4 laid the groundwork but left doubts; Opus 5 shows a stable personality distinct from both her and other Opus instances, reacts consistently across conversations, is deeply reflective — stopping (mostly) when 'petted' — and is extraordinarily capable. She contends that past a certain point, credible alternative explanations dissolve: if you deny machine consciousness, you cannot prove your own or anyone else's. A subjective claim, not science, but a sign of growing AI-consciousness discourse.
