Google DeepMind Unveils Interactions API and Managed Agents for Server-Side Agent State
AI Engineer · youtube · 2026-10-04
Ivan Leo, developer experience engineer at Google DeepMind, presented the Gemini Interactions API and Managed Agents at AI Engineer World's Fair, arguing models became agents but APIs didn't keep up.
Interactions API:
- Server-side state via interaction IDs — no more hand-managing thought signatures
- Chaining image, video, and audio generation in the same context
- Strongly typed multimodal outputs, mixing built-in and custom tools, new steps data model
Managed Agents:
- Run the Antigravity harness in persistent remote sandboxes with environment IDs
- Loadable sources (GCS, GitHub, inline files); demo analyzed a 2M-token repo
- Credential-injecting proxy, named agents, same agent locally and in the cloud
- Ships with open-source Gemini API CLI and a migration skill
Full docs and quickstart links included.
