The ENCODE Project Consortium has posted a new preprint on bioRxiv, inviting critical feedback from the genomics community.
- Scale: over 16,000 genome-wide experiments accumulated across two decades, mostly in primary cells and tissues.
- Regulatory element catalog: 5.3 million DNase I hypersensitive sites delineating essentially all chromatin-accessible regulatory DNA, plus chromatin state, transcription factor occupancy, and nascent transcription maps, and systematic predictions of non-coding variant effects.
- Genes and transcripts: nearly 18,000 novel human long noncoding RNA genes, 150,000 novel transcript isoforms, and genome-wide transcript stability maps.
- Interaction networks: physical and functional regulatory-gene interactions mapped across 100+ tissues and cell lines at up to 10 bp resolution, linking millions of loop anchors to gene expression.
