Terminal era is over: researcher argues agents, not files or tabs, are the new coding primitive

ML researcher Yuchen Jin says he's stopped using Claude Code and Codex CLI, arguing the terminal is the wrong interface for coding agents: tabs are ephemeral while context is persistent, and managing 30 terminal tabs is pure cognitive overhead.
He also rarely needs an IDE like Cursor anymore since he no longer navigates whole codebases. "The new primitive is the agent, not the file." He calls the Codex desktop app the best agentic UI so far, but says we're still early.
