Developer builds MIT-licensed local code knowledge graph for Claude Code
Unique-Business-9201 · reddit · 2026-10-04
A developer built repopedia after finding grep unreliable for call-graph analysis in a large Python codebase, and existing tools either used a PolyForm license (GitNexus) or required uploading repos or running Docker with a vector DB.
- MIT-licensed, fully local: pip install, run on a repo, and tree-sitter parses it into a code graph stored as a plain SQLite file. No server, Docker, or API keys; nothing is uploaded.
- Core queries: who calls a function, and the blast radius of changing it (all transitive callers). It can also dump a codebase wiki.
- Most-used feature is the MCP server: integrated with Claude Code, the agent asks the graph directly instead of doing five rounds of text search, getting exact file:line answers in one call. No embedding model involved, which matters more for local models.
- Status: v0.2.1, Python and TypeScript only; method calls through self are resolved by name matching, which can be inaccurate in large class trees. A 2-minute demo and GitHub repo are linked, and the author welcomes bug reports.
