User tests 7 ChatGPT apps and views — almost none show the same chat history
marcos987 · reddit · 2026-10-03
A user compared 7 ChatGPT surfaces — macOS Classic, the new desktop app's Chat and Codex modes, iOS/Android Chat and Work modes, web ChatGPT and web Codex — and found nearly every view shows a different slice of his history.
Recents, chat history, Pinned, Projects, Work and Codex overlap, chats vanish from some views and appear in others, and even "Recents" means different things depending on the entry point. Desktop ≠ mobile ≠ web, ChatGPT ≠ Work ≠ Codex, yet they aren't properly separate either. He argues OpenAI should spend time on basic usability and consistency instead of shipping another model or mode every week — and says the mess is enough to make him consider switching platforms.
