Cohere releases small translation model North Small Translate, validated on WMT26 benchmarks
cohere · x · 2026-10-04
Cohere unveiled North Small Translate, a small model targeting low-resource language translation, alongside a full technical report.
The team stressed evaluation rigor: WMT26 benchmarks were used only after the model was complete, so it couldn't have been trained on them. Team members including Kocmi will present the work at the WMT 2026 conference this October.
