Responding to the SynthID-Bio authors' acknowledgment that watermark removal is possible but costly, Stanford professor Anshul Kundaje argues the cost claim doesn't hold: sequence-to-sequence redesign tools like Raygun make stripping DNA watermarks cheap, meaning sequence watermarks are more theater than real security.
