Dev recalls Oculus First Contact as the unmatched 'living in the future' moment
lauriewired · x · 2026-10-03
Security researcher lauriewired says the strongest "I'm living in the future" moment he ever had was the First Contact demo on Oculus CV1 around 2016 — and he's been chasing that feeling since. AI and self-driving cars don't hit the same, he argues, and he laments that the VR space fizzled out. The only comparable wow moment, he adds, was large-scale projection-mapping work in aerospace — a very cool but underutilized tech tree rarely seen outside theme parks.
