Tesla's Optimus factory targets ~10M units/year at full capacity; steel structure ~40% done
CyberRobooo · x · 2026-10-03
Tesla's dedicated Optimus factory at Giga Texas is under construction, with a reported full-capacity target of roughly 10 million units per year — a figure the author likens to the population of Sweden.
Construction updates from aerial footage (Joe Tegtmeyer):
- A high-volume Gen 4 Optimus plant spanning 7+ million sq ft (650,000 sq m)
- Groundwork began in late March, first steel on May 27; by Oct 1 the basic steel structure was 40% assembled
- North grade beams nearly complete, large floor sections poured, roofing insulation arriving; east side and south half have footings and grade beams but no steel yet
- Tesla hasn't disclosed a standalone cost, but 2026 company capex is guided at $20–25B
The author frames humanoid robots as a "100% workforce" for aging societies. (The 10M figure is unofficial and unconfirmed by Tesla.)
