Replacing CAD with code: LLM-written build123d Python scripts design entire robots
natesiggard · x · 2026-10-03
A developer shares his code-as-CAD robotics workflow: every part is a Python program using the open-source parametric framework build123d, exporting STEP files for Fusion 360 inspection. A single YAML spec holds dimensions, masses, actuators and joint limits, and all code is written by Claude Opus. Onshape was rejected due to its API cap of a few thousand calls per year.
