sindresorhus: AI-made PRs make humans mere routers — open source should let project AIs absorb contributions directly
vykthur · x · 2026-10-03
sindresorhus argues the current open source workflow is increasingly absurd: someone uses AI to generate a PR, the maintainer uses a better AI to review it, and the two AIs go back and forth until convergence — with AI spam on top, the human mostly acts as a router between agents.
He proposes skipping the loop entirely: users describe a feature to the repo, and the project's AI — which already knows its conventions, preferences, history, rejected ideas and boundaries — immediately assesses fit and shape. vykthur adds that well-justified issue descriptions may soon define OSS contributions, and asks whether version control should evolve to incentivize, measure and support this.
