Does Claude Code Make You Dumber? Critic Says Automating Judgment Is the Problem
aakashgupta · x · 2026-10-03
Responding to a claim that six months of Claude Code left someone's brain melting, Aakash Gupta disagrees sharply: Claude Code has him thinking harder than any job he has had. He argues the cause is in the original post itself — five or six terminals open, waiting on responses just to hit enter 90% of the time — which automates judgment along with typing, and judgment is what keeps you sharp.
He cites MIT Media Lab research in which 54 people wrote essays wearing EEG caps: the group leaning on ChatGPT showed the weakest brain connectivity, and most could not quote a single sentence from the essay they had just submitted. He notes the study's crossover finding that almost nobody mentions.
