UT Austin professor rewrites Feature Ranking chapter in free ML e-book
GeostatsGuy · x · 2026-10-03
Michael J. Pyrcz, professor at UT Austin, completed a major rewrite of the Feature Ranking chapter in his free online e-book Applied Machine Learning in Python, with expanded explanations, new demos and plots. The chapter's core message: select the fewest features carrying the most information rather than throwing everything into a model. It ships with runnable Python workflows (MachineLearningDemos repo), linked YouTube lectures on dimensionality reduction, PCA and feature selection, and a Zenodo DOI.
