Google updates guidance: fake expert authorship signals pages as low quality
gaganghotra_ · x · 2026-10-03
Google has updated its "creating helpful, reliable, people-first content" guidance to explicitly ban deceptive authorship information — fabricating creator profiles to make content appear written by experts. Such pages will be treated as untrustworthy and low quality.
SEO expert Aleyda Solis notes this was always obviously deceptive and can't replace a genuine expert profile, and that the update is much needed given the flood of AI content, alongside Google's earlier guidance to review and fact-check AI content. Coverage via Barry Schwartz (rustybrick).
