Anthropic adds Mods system to Claude Code, letting devs rewrite the tool from inside with JS/TS

Anthropic is adding a "Mods" system to Claude Code — essentially middleware that runs directly inside the AI coding tool.
Developers can use JavaScript or TypeScript to reshape the tool's interface and behavior, including adding custom panels, intercepting tool calls, and wiring up new custom commands. The move effectively turns Claude Code from a closed CLI into a platform that developers can extend and modify from within.
