Cloudflare Durable Objects now survive client disconnects for long-running agents
threepointone · x · 2026-10-03
Cloudflare shipped a major Durable Objects update (compatibility date 2026-10-01, or the durableobjectiotaskspreventeviction flag on older dates): pending I/O operations now keep a Durable Object running even with no connected client, covering service bindings, cross-DO RPC/fetch, container.monitor(), waitUntil(), and pending timers. Each pending operation prevents idle eviction for up to 15 minutes, extendable. This directly addresses the pain point of building agents that must survive client disconnections while calling tools or coordinating across Durable Objects.
