Demis Hassabis: AI can create art, but never the meaning of 'based on a true story'

In a recent interview after receiving the Albert Medal, DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis argued that while chess has a clear scale of 'better,' creative work does not — AI art will just be different, not better. He cited why 'based on a true story' matters: knowing a real human lived through an experience adds meaning an AI-created work can never offer. Using Van Gogh as an example, he said you can see his pain in every brushstroke — an AI replica 'probably never' carries the same meaning. He also conceded most human abilities may eventually be proven computable.
