Microsoft has handed its quantum chips to DARPA for independent testing, amid longstanding controversy over its claims of noise-protected Majorana-based topological qubits—a claim questioned partly because supporting data was never published and several related papers were retracted.
The testing is part of DARPA's Quantum Benchmarking Initiative, which assesses whether proposed quantum architectures can actually scale to useful machines.
