Open-source sol maps the solar system and Milky Way to scale with real NASA data
louisvarge · x · 2026-10-03
Developer louislva open-sourced sol, a "Google Maps for the galaxy": a flat-design 2D map of the solar system and Milky Way at true scale, covering every planet, moon, asteroid, comet, almost every spacecraft, and nearby stars. All positions come from published data — NASA JPL Horizons and the Small-Body Database, NAIF constants, CelesTrak, SIMBAD/IAU WGSN, and Reid et al. 2019 for spiral arms; only the face-on Milky Way view is illustrative. MIT-licensed, live at sol.louisarge.com.
