Meta Open-Sources Muse Gadgets, Lets Devs Run Its AI Agent on ESP32 and Raspberry Pi
机器之心 · wechat · 2026-10-03
Meta is expanding its Muse personal AI agent into a hardware platform with the open-source Muse Gadgets project, handing device capabilities to makers and developers.
What developers can build
- Run Muse firmware on ESP32 boards, or use the Linux SDK for more complex devices; Muse clients can also run on edge hardware like Raspberry Pi 5.
- Official DIY references include a color E Ink display as a low-power desktop reminder/dashboard, an HDMI stick to cast the agent UI to a TV, and a touch handheld pendant as a wearable interaction terminal.
- Workflow: register at gadgets.muse.ai for an API token, import the official GitHub repo into coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor or GitHub Copilot CLI to generate peripheral driver code, then flash ESP32 or run the Linux/Pi SDK for two-way connection.
Official hardware and messaging
- Meta also launched Muse Home Link, a USB-C powered device that connects Muse to the home network and lets it talk to TVs, speakers and any HTTPS-capable device. The first 5,000 units are in trial production, shipping in weeks, and will be given free to eligible Muse subscribers while stock lasts.
- Alexandr Wang said building gadgets is fun and that Meta wants to unleash developer creativity for "new, even crazy" ideas.
Community cases and implications
- Federico Viticci turned an Xteink E Ink reader into an always-on Muse display that magnetically attaches to his phone via MagSafe, so flipping the phone shows Muse updates.
- Another developer used a $50 SenseCAP Watcher to build a smart wine-cellar device: photograph a bottle label, and Muse identifies winery and vintage, syncing via a Tailscale connector — under an hour from build to running.
- The piece argues this signals a shift in AI hardware: instead of company-designed devices, vendors supply the model and agent while developers create the form factors, positioning Muse as an extensible platform.
