Rechelon: Bad 'water pipes consciousness' arguments are poisoning AI discourse

Rechelon criticizes NathanJRobinson's argument that programs can't attain consciousness (else water pipes running a program would be conscious). He agrees there are good arguments against present models having consciousness or personhood, but says such gobsmackingly bad ones poison the discourse — notably their rhetorical appeal to substrate rather than structure.
