Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports Apple internally considered cutting around 5,000 support jobs as AI took over some tasks, then shelved the plan indefinitely — no layoffs have been announced. The author argues human support isn't automatically better service: he'd take an AI agent if it could actually fix the issue and authorize refunds, and asks whether access to a human is part of what customers pay for.
