Engine rebuilds Streets of Rage 2 frame-by-frame in real Tokyo streets on Quest 3
gwendall · x · 2026-10-03
Developer gwendall demos an engine that reconstructs classic games and re-renders them spatially: Streets of Rage 2 is played against the real streets of Akihabara, Tokyo.
- Each frame reads the console's video state and rebuilds the scene in 3D — no video cutouts, no AI-generated imagery.
- It runs standalone on Meta Quest 3 with a PS5 gamepad.
- Not public yet; a playable version for others is in the works.
