A robot demonstration can lose its most useful half-second: tracking gaps sabotage manipulation learning

A Reddit post drawing on the MEgoVista paper (arXiv) highlights a blind spot in robot demonstration evaluation: brief hand-tracking gaps can erase exactly the moments that matter most for learning.
- Example: in a cable-plugging demo, the tracker loses the hand during insertion while the rest looks flawless
- MEgoVista penalizes missed detections rather than excluding them — a good start, but identical gaps have wildly different consequences by phase
- The MEgo pipeline (detection → temporal tracking → MANO 3D reconstruction) makes coverage worth evaluating alongside reconstruction quality
- Proposed check: break evaluation down by approach/contact/withdrawal phases, reporting pose error, detection coverage, and longest tracking gap
