Survey: 42% of devs say AI writes at least half their code, saving 13 hours weekly

A BairesDev survey of 705 developers and IT leaders worldwide finds AI is taking over much of the coding workload:
- 42% of respondents say AI now writes at least half their code; only 21% still spend more than half their week writing new code from scratch
- Nearly 80% of developers now code less than half the week, saving an average of 13 hours weekly
- Freed time goes to reviewing AI output (67%) and debugging it (52%), plus about 9 hours a week learning AI tools and new tech
- 86% report finding their role more fulfilling
