Inside Claude Code mods: Addy Osmani builds an 80-line context window forecast

Claude Code's new You Should Know plugin spins off a side agent to observe Claude's output and surface details users might miss. The companion blog by Addy Osmani explains mods in depth:
- A mod is a small JS/TS file running inside your Claude Code session — essentially hooks shipped in plugins that see every event. It can watch, rewrite Claude Code's actions, or draw custom terminal/desktop UI. No API knowledge needed: describe the mod you want and it hot-reloads into place (requires Claude Code 2.1.287+).
- The tutorial builds Token Weather, an 80-line live forecast of context window usage (Clear at 18%, Showers at 67%, Storm at 81%).
- Two larger mods are toured: Blast Radius, a guard in front of risky commands, and Replay Theater, a custom review view.
- Type declarations for your build are written into the mod's .claude-plugin/types/ folder on each load — treat those as the version authority.
