BIS report: over half of AI funding comes from AI companies themselves, peers supplied 55.2%

A new Bank for International Settlements (BIS) report examines circular financing among AI companies:
- Capital loops inward: Between 2021 and 2025, peers supplied 55.2% of AI firms' incoming investment value, while AI investors directed 28.7% of their own deal value to AI targets.
- Rare but big: Circular AI-to-AI deals make up only 16.1% of deals but are significantly larger.
- Acquisitions filled gaps: Nvidia bought Mellanox's data-center networking, Microsoft acquired GitHub and speech-AI firm Nuance, and Broadcom absorbed VMware.
