BIS report: 55.2% of AI funding comes from AI companies themselves

The Bank for International Settlements published a report on circular financing among AI companies, finding that between 2021 and 2025 peers supplied 55.2% of AI firms' incoming investment value, while AI investors themselves directed 28.7% of their deal value to AI targets. The report flags that circular deals are rare but large (only 16.1% of AI-to-AI...), warning this self-referential funding structure may amplify systemic risk in the sector.
