Ex-Google researcher: models surpassing all humans likely within a couple of years
zetalyrae · x · 2026-10-03
Former Google DeepMind researcher Sholto Douglas says models as or more capable than all humans are very likely to arrive within the next couple of years — able to do everything a human can on a computer, and once robotics matures, everything in the physical world too.
Quoting this, zetalyrae notes that a few years ago his uncertainty about such predictions sat mostly on the technical side; today the bigger question is whether it will be allowed to happen — i.e. social and regulatory friction, not capability.
