Meta partners with mathematicians on six papers, solving five open research problems with Muse Spark
AIatMeta · x · 2026-10-03
Following gold-medal-level results in five math, physics and chemistry Olympiad competitions, Meta pushed its Muse Spark models (1.1 and 1.2 in Thinking Mode) at genuinely open research problems with no existing solution path.
Over several months, mathematicians worked through the regular meta.ai chat interface — no custom research scaffold. Safeguards included: mathematicians guided the research, a second group reviewed the work, each paper marks human- vs AI-drafted passages, and prior research is credited.
Meta published six papers, five answering previously open research questions; independent solutions by other teams were acknowledged.
