The DOJ has arrested Greg Lui, 38, CEO of Earthmade Computer, alleging he used falsified paperwork to ship servers containing more than $300 million worth of export-controlled Nvidia chips to China.
According to the indictment, Lui conspired with freight forwarders in Malaysia and Singapore to divert shipments of A100 and H100 GPUs into China. While not Nvidia's most advanced chips, they can train large language models, which US officials fear could advance China's AI and military capabilities.
