Security researcher to frontier labs: open cyber models to defenders and subsidize tokens
dyn___ · x · 2026-10-03
Security researcher 0x30n published five recommendations for frontier labs to genuinely move the needle on AI security:
- Open access to the best cyber-capable models to as many vetted security practitioners as possible, not just big names
- Subsidize tokens for security/cyber use so the most at-risk defenders can afford them, instead of charging more
- Fund small-team research via a program like DARPA's former Cyber Fast Track: fast approvals, no IP grab
- Invest in open-source tools and recipes for defenders: attack surface identification/reduction, patching, detection & response
- Invest in labs' own security with transparent audits to build public trust
Core thesis: frontier AI cyber capabilities should be aggressively armed toward defenders first.
