Huawei claims Ascend overtook Nvidia in China share; supply, not demand, is the bottleneck

At HUAWEI CONNECT, Rotating Chairman Eric Xu said Ascend has overtaken Nvidia in China market share and that the biggest constraint is supply, not demand. The training-oriented Ascend 950DT is in testing with 'quite good' results and is expected in mass supply by end of this year or early next, with much of China's AI training expected to run on 950DT SuperPoDs starting 2027. Huawei also said its 950DT superpod starts mass deliveries early next year, complained supply chains must ramp faster, projected global supply/demand balance by 2029 (later for China), and framed full semiconductor self-sufficiency as inevitable. The news also confirms the earlier August 950 launch was largely a marketing stunt given insufficient capacity. Huawei also unveiled its Peerium computing architecture and UnifiedBus interconnect protocol.
