Pony: An Open-Source MCP Server That Lets AI Agents Safely Drive an Android Phone
unreal36 · reddit · 2026-10-03
The author released Pony (MIT-licensed): an Android app plus MCP server that lets MCP clients like Claude Desktop, Claude Code, and Cursor physically control a phone.
- Tools: pair/status, screenshot, uitree (on-screen text and layout), tap, type, openapp, confirm/done
- Connectivity: one-tap pairing via an end-to-end encrypted relay that stores nothing; works over cell data, or use Tailscale / self-hosted relay
- Safety focus: anything that sends, pays, buys, orders, deletes, calls, or changes security settings pauses for on-device confirmation; password fields are hidden from the agent
- Demo test: found a sushi roll on Postmates, added it to the cart, stopped at Place Order
- Limits: Android 11+ only, sideloaded APK; many apps won't open on a hidden second screen without Shizuku; banking apps refuse it entirely
Built with AI coding agents; the author is soliciting feedback on the tool surface (e.g., whether uitree plus occasional screenshots is the right split). Code on GitHub.
