A consultant learned the hard way that Claude drafts sound like everyone else's

A small consulting practice owner shares a hard lesson: he used Claude for first drafts of almost everything until a longtime client called his positioning doc generic — like it could have been written for any company in the space.
Comparing three pre-AI docs, the gap was embarrassing: the old ones had weird opinions and genuinely risky calls that were clearly his own. The model doesn't hand you something wrong; it hands you the average of everyone who ever wrote about the topic — and average is the one thing clients don't pay a consultant for.
His fix: treat the model's first answer as the consensus he must argue against, not the draft he ships. The sharp version only appears once he forces it off the obvious path.
