Codex + FreeCAD MCP recreates JWST sunshield deployment step by step
burhop · x · 2026-10-02
A developer used Codex Sol Max with FreeCAD MCP to model JWST and simulate its sunshield deployment stage by stage with FreeCAD kinematics. When FreeCAD's rigid-body-only constraint made the thin-film fold impossible (even Codex said it couldn't be done), the author prototyped the folding method with cut A4 paper; Codex then counter-proposed an accordion fold to avoid interference, and the deployment was completed in nearly the same order as the real telescope.
