YouTube updates Shorts algorithm to prioritize original content and suppress re-uploads
gaganghotra_ · x · 2026-10-02
YouTube rolled out another spam-focused update, this time for Shorts, saying it aligns with the platform's existing spam mitigation policy. The update tunes recommendation systems to further prioritize original content and reduce the reach of videos re-uploaded from other creators without adding anything new.
YouTube frames the change as improving the viewer experience while giving creators who publish original content a better chance to grow. Expect re-upload/low-effort compilation channels to take a hit on Shorts distribution.
