Amazon writes 3,000-word blog warning communities not to block data centers
The Verge AI · rss · 2026-10-02
AWS CEO Matt Garman published a 3,000+ word blog urging the public to back AI data center projects or risk "irreparable harm" to the US economy and national security, saying "our nation can't afford to lose" the AI dominance race. He pushed back on concerns over jobs, power demand and environmental impact, acknowledging legitimate questions but arguing that misinformation and "outright lies" take hold faster than ever, and framing the buildout as a benefit to communities. The Verge reads it as Amazon's counterattack on communities trying to block projects.
