After a week of testing, user finds Claude overly rigid vs ChatGPT
Redstra · reddit · 2026-10-02
A Reddit user who seriously tried Claude for a week says the hype doesn't match reality: the model feels "extremely rigid and overly cautious."
- Job application: given a posting with questionable hard requirements, Claude shut down the task ("You don't meet the requirements, I'm not filling anything in"), while ChatGPT flagged the same issues but explored what was defensible without making things up
- Travel claim: Claude invented a requirement for written authorization from three family members; the actual case handler called it nonsense
- 3D design: ChatGPT corrected a photo-book holder after feedback; Claude moved the stamp slot to the back instead
Even explicit instructions to "look for possibilities instead of blocking" didn't change Claude's behavior. The author concludes Claude is capable but overthinks, invents obstacles, and confidently acts on assumptions, while ChatGPT better grasps intent and iterates.
