Banks tighten data center lending as Beff bets thermodynamic computing can fix AI power crunch

- Société Générale, Sumitomo Mitsui and Mitsubishi have grown more selective in lending to data center projects, shrinking the pool of banks available to syndicate multibillion-dollar loans and stoking fears of an AI infrastructure overbuild.
- Responding to the news, Extropic founder Beff argues that scaling thermodynamic computing fast enough could either pop the bubble of overbuilding on the wrong tech tree, or save it by delivering far more compute per watt and smoothing the transition to the next cycle.
- He says he feels daily urgency to accelerate the arrival of power-efficient compute.
