14-person startup Instinct hits $10B valuation, betting personal agents become the transaction layer

Instinct, a 14-person AI agent startup founded by 23-year-old Noah Shinn (ex-Sierra), raised a Series C at a $10B valuation — 4x its $2.5B valuation from just a month earlier — with Sequoia, Benchmark and Coatue participating.
Instead of being an information portal, Instinct positions itself as a transaction entry point: users state a need via text or phone, and the agent decomposes tasks, browses the web, calls third-party services, and completes bookings — even phoning merchants when needed. Still invite-only, it is growing 10-11% per day with nearly $1B in annualized transaction volume, about half from travel, monetized via merchant fees rather than user subscriptions.
The piece also weighs the risks: Meta's Muse agent (3M+ downloads) has built-in distribution, Manus 2.0 is pushing agent digital identities, and Instinct must prove its growth is durable, control compute costs that double weekly, manage trust and permissions (40% of active users have handed over card details), and win over platforms reluctant to cede transaction control.
